When Should You Call a Collection Agency?

Waiting longer than 90 days to begin recovering past due accounts dramatically decreases your chance of getting paid.
Here are some tips:

• The day after the account becomes past due, place a polite phone call to the person who owes you money.  Be sure to record your attempts.
• At 45 days past due, follow up with a past-due letter yourself.
• Remember, people pay health care providers last.
• Patients know that there is no consequence to not paying you.  Using third party intervention increases a sense of urgency to the debtor.
